Anecdotes

• While Simionato was singing in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at La Scala in 1947 she learnt that the great Maestro Toscanini was interested in engaging her to sing the role of Rubria in Nerone to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the composer's death. The preliminary rehearsals took place in Toscanini's own home, with Antonio Votto there as well as he was at the time Toscanini's assistant. Simionato so  impressed the Maestro with her pure and divine singing that he had a tear in his eye, Votto who was used to a more stern Toscanini, was greatly surprised. This memorable collaboration was captured in a recording of the event.
