"[Simionato had] the only superlative Handelian voice. Her Cornelia was
impeccable in respect to the sedate staging and her singing was both moving
and convincing." Franco Abiati, Il Corriere della Serra,

The 1956 La Scala
season opened with Aida, which was
graced with Simionato's Amneris. Three days after the opening night
Simionato appeared on it's boards again as Cornelia, and continued to
alternate the roles with four performances in total of Giulio Cesare,
and ten of Aida. She met with equal
success in both roles.
